This sweet boy is recovering from an antibiotic-resistant deep skin bacterial infection, and he needs a foster who can provide him with some extra attention and one-on-one love and care. ❤️ He is currently on medication and will need to continue taking it, he still has a few bandages that he will need changed, and will need regular checkups at the vet. Unless he is around people or animals who are immunocompromised or have wounds, he is not contagious. He will need to remain at a reduced activity level. Swipe ➡️ to see a photo from when he was fully bandaged. Walter is a big, goofy sweetheart! He once wagged his tail so hard it had to be bandaged, he just has that much joy and love in his heart. He is smart and affectionate, and is house-trained and leash-trained. He is about two years old. He is good with kids, is neutral with dogs, and we think he would be fine with cats. He is a Staffordshire Terrier mix, so we are seeking someone in an apartment or a home that does not have breed restrictions against Staffies.     ⭐️ Welcome Cailin, LVT! ⭐️ Cailin grew up ⭐️ Welcome Cailin, LVT! ⭐️ Cailin grew up in Vienna, VA, and went to college at UVA in Charlottesville where she got a degree in International Relations. She worked in higher education lobbying for a short time before realizing she prefers to work with animals of the furry variety every day instead of politicians! From there, Cailin completed her degree in Veterinary Technology and started working in both primary and emergency small animal practices, most recently as a surgical technician for the last few years. Cailin is passionate about making this field more transparent and sustainable for those in it, and medically she has an interest in pain management and providing the best possible patient care. Cailin is excited to help grow EMMAvet’s primary and surgical side of the practice! She currently lives in Fairfax with her husband and two crazy cat children, Mogli and Nimbus. As many (or all) of you have experienced, there has been a boom in pet ownership and need for veterinary care. Every day, we have diligent pet families call to try and get their dogs and cats seen for routine health care, chronic illness follow-up and management, medication refills, as well as for minor illnesses. On top of that, we need to be available for the urgent care needs in our community. Due to this high demand, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate everyone. Our goal is to become more available and therefore provide more cats and dogs with the care they need and deserve. She then traveled down south to obtain her Master of Science and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Nolan returned home to Maryland to start a family and begin her career in emergency and urgent care medicine. In her free time, she loves traveling, reading, indulging in movies, sampling great food, spending time with her family, and being active outdoors with her vizsla, Ava.

    💛It is with a heavy heart that we share the pas 💛It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of EMMAvet’s namesake. Emma lived to be 14 1/2 years old, 14 of which were with Dr. Jarvinen. Emma had virtually every urgent care need under the sun, from too numerous to count dietary indiscretions (including but not limited to raw pasta, grapes, chocolate, dead bird, entire loaves of bread, pies, sticks of butter, more chocolate, the entire bag of dog food), to minor injuries and wounds, attacked by another dog, bloody diarrhea of unknown cause (but dietary indiscretion highly suspected!), and many others. In the clinic, she was known for getting into the tall skinny trash cans and helping herself to a nap in whatever kennel/cage she could open. In her old age, Emma’s antics continued but were punctuated by much longer naps. At home, she sought out the most comfortable beds or the sunny patches in the yard. Emma will be remembered by some for knowing the command “GO HOME!” for all the times she hopped her fences in search of the most comfortable patch of sunned grass. During vet school, Dr. Jarvinen did agility with Emma to keep Emma’s brain engaged and occupied. Emma suffered from some separation anxiety, which was mostly alleviated when Jaildog came into the family. The two were constant companions. Emma did not suffer, but she leaves her family heartbroken. Our only wish is she knows how much she was loved, as we feel incredibly grateful to have had her for so long. #foreverinourhearts #emmavet
